This stamp was issued in 1980 as part of a series on Mexican folk art. This specific stamp depicts a parachico, the main character from a dance unique to the state of Chiapas and in particular the towns of Chiapa de Corzo and Suchiapa. The dance is held annually during the holiday of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of Chiapa de Corzo. In the stamp, the materials used in the mask (wood) and headdress (fiber from the ixtle, or yucca, plant) are noted.
