This stamp is one of a set of three printed by Indonesia in 1973 to promote tourism (pariwisata) by emphasizing its unique and diverse masking cultures.  The mask in this stamp depicts a Topeng dance drama mask from the island of Java, probably representing the character Panji, Javanese hero and god-king famous for his virtue and self-denial.
